Darnell Heywood, the director of college counseling at Columbus Academy since 2008, recently attended her first Board of Trustees meeting for the College Board in New York City.

Later this month, she will return to the Big Apple as the new chair of the Guidance and Admission Assembly Council at the College Board Forum, the preeminent annual gathering of K–12, higher education and college access professionals from all areas of expertise.

J.D. Vance, an investor, commentator and author of the #1 New York Times best seller “Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis,” will visit Columbus Academy on November 30 as the featured speaker for the school’s annual Celebration of Leadership.

These academically talented students have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.
