Biography

Susan O’Rourke joined the Columbus Academy faculty in 2012 as our assistant band director and woodwind specialist. She also helps lead the upper school pep band and is co-advisor for Journey 511, a middle school Christian affinity group. Away from campus, Susan is the conductor of Capital Cadet Band, a youth band ensemble comprised of middle school band students from all over Central Ohio. Susan previously held several roles in music education with over 36 years of experience between time spent as director of instrumental and vocal music at St. Charles Preparatory School, adjunct faculty at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, band director at Polaris Christian Academy, and as band director and woodwind specialist in Worthington City Schools. Susan has a B.M.E. and M.A. in woodwind pedagogy, both from The Ohio State University, where she also was a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society. Susan and her husband, Patrick, have three children: Meagan, Allison and Brian, and the family has a mini golden-doodle dog named Roo.
