In addition to music classes, lower school students also receive instruction in drama. This begins in kindergarten and is held once every six days for 30 minutes. The entire fourth grade stages a musical every year that is a collaboration between the music and drama classes.
Theater in the Middle School starts Creative Expressions taught in Grades 6-8 as an Allied Class (classes that meet for one quarter per year per student). Creative Expressions gives students the chance to create their own plays, perform in a bell choir, create a “STOMP” routine and participate in many other activities including set design and technical theatre. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the annual middle school musical.
There are two opportunities every year for upper school students to participate in a theatre production – a dramatic play in the fall and a musical in the spring. Students can choose to be either backstage (helping with the technical aspects of the show) or on-stage. In addition to the staged shows, there is also a technical theatre class offering that meets three days out of a six-day rotation.
