Biography

Kelly Cheresnick began teaching kindergarten at Columbus Academy at the start of the 2025-26 school year. She came to Academy from Los Angeles Unified School District in California where she taught for 10 years between kindergarten and first grade at The Academy for Enriched Sciences. During her tenure there, Kelly was named 2023 Teacher of the Year in a district of over 24,000 educators and served on the Local School Leadership Council, School Site Council, Instructional Leadership Team. She also was a team lead, helped facilitate professional development trainings and was a parent-teacher liaison for seven years. Also while in L.A., Kelly spent four years as a substitute teacher and teacher assistant at Sinai Akiba Academy. She holds a B.A. in sociology and psychology from University of North Florida and a Multiple Subject Teaching credential from California State University Northridge, as well as Responsive Classroom 1 and Orton-Gillingham Approach certifications. In addition, Kelly is LETRS certified in the science of reading and holds a National STEM certification. Kelly has a dog, Birdie, who she enjoys taking hikes with and also three nephews she often watches at their many sporting events.
