Arts & Music

Columbus Academy students are first introduced to fine and performing arts in our Explorers Program and classes advance all the way through grade 12. Our students are immersed in all modes of creativity – drawing, sculpting, music and performance – and are encouraged to execute their ideas in new and exciting ways. Columbus Academy is a three dimensional learning experience where self-expression builds self-esteem and children are inspired to take their curiosity further.

Visual Arts

The visual arts are sophisticated and advanced at Academy. Our Morris Hall Arts Complex, featuring a two-level gallery, rivals the studios found on many college campuses. Kindergarten students emulate the great masters, while older students create original works of their own. In the ceramics, painting and photography studios and in our makerspaces and our outdoor classrooms, students of all grades develop new ways of seeing and processing the world through the visual arts.

Music

Visit Academy and you will immediately see - and hear - that music isn’t an “extra activity” but a daily practice. Since musical ability is formed early in life, we begin with singing in our Explorers program and formal music lessons in the second grade. Students learn about the world by studying different musical cultures and historical periods. Playing an instrument helps develop self-discipline, time management skills and emotional range.

Performing Arts

Our students have many opportunities to shine. While many schools are cutting their performing arts budgets, Academy recognizes the value of performance as essential to a child’s development. Performances of all types are always a high-point of the school calendar. Viking Pride is on full display at plays and assemblies with enthusiastic audiences that span the generations.
