Alyssa Thiele has worked as a learning specialist in the lower school at Columbus Academy since 2013. During the 2020-21 school year she served as a fifth grade teacher. Alyssa has also helped coach our middle school field hockey and girls lacrosse teams in years past. Prior to arriving at CA, Alyssa taught for one year at Eastland Performance Academy as a grades 3-5 intervention specialist. Alyssa graduated cum laude from Wittenberg University with a dual major in elementary and special education and a minor in women’s studies, and was a goalkeeper for the Tigers' field hockey team from 2008-2011. Alyssa graduated cum laude with her masters in reading education from Otterbein University, and was also inducted into Kappa Delta Pi, an educational honors society. In 2025, Alyssa became a certified level practitioner with the Orton-Gillingham Academy, an Accredited Plus training program of the International Dyslexia Association. She became a fellow-in-training through the Orton-Gillingham Academy under Grace Sharma in June 2025. Alyssa is also a current member of the International Dyslexia Association. Alyssa and her husband Drew have a son, Brody, and two “fur babies,” Lucy and Tyson.

“I love watching the students grow up and develop their personalities and interests. I can go to sporting events and theater productions and see students who I taught in lower school.”
Little-known fact
“I am a certified Jazzercise instructor and have been teaching in Upper Arlington since 2015. You can see my share my talents during rain day practices with the middle school girls field hockey and lacrosse teams.”
