This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Parents’ Association of Columbus Academy (PACA). Over time, PACA has created essential community functions on behalf of the school including the Viking Corner store, the Charlie David Dinner and other fundraising initiatives, youth sports programs, and a crucial forum through which parents can volunteer and build community.

In recent years, Columbus Academy’s resources have evolved such that PACA can modernize its vision and mission. PACA and the school have been closely collaborating to develop a more efficient and effective way to serve the parent community. Going forward, PACA will receive funding from the school to support its activities, rather than have the burden of fundraising.

Since PACA will no longer have fundraising responsibilities, the PACA Executive Committee has proposed a structural change to no longer operate PACA as a separate nonprofit entity. Instead, PACA will work with the school in the same model as the Alumni Association.

PACA will retain its leadership and important mission of community building, volunteer support, service and Viking Spirit. Parents will continue to organize, volunteer and innovate initiatives on behalf of students and the CA community, just as before. The change fortifies PACA’s vital role and positive impact on the Academy community for many years to come.

All current parents/guardians are also encouraged to attend the PACA Forum on May 10 when a vote on this proposal will be held.
