John Wuorinen ’80, who recently retired after 42 years of service to the school as a teacher, administrator and coach, will be honored throughout Alumni Weekend 2026 at Columbus Academy on October 9-10.

The evening of Friday, October 9, will feature an All-Alumni Tailgate on the campus quad complete with tailgate-style food and a livestream of the football game against Buckeye Valley. Members of Academy’s Class of 1976 celebrating their 50th reunion will serve as honorary captains at the game and will be invited to the 50-yard line with the football team captains for the coin flip and special recognition. Halftime will include a special presentation to honor Wuorinen and induct two new members – Zach Doran ’00 and Bryan Morosky ’04 – into CA’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

Morning events on Saturday, October 10, include the Golden Viking Breakfast with Head of School Melissa Soderberg (for alumni celebrating 50 or more years since graduation), the popular Viking Legacy Brunch with CA Faculty & Staff and an Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Campus tours will also be offered by current Academy students.

All on-campus events are complimentary and open for alumni and their guests to attend, but we ask that you please REGISTER HERE so the school can plan accordingly. For all Academy alumni, if you have not heard from your class about reunion plans and/or have any questions, please contact the Alumni Office.

Alumni from the Class of 1976 should register here for the weekend’s special slate of events for their 50th reunion.

Alumni Weekend is a fantastic opportunity to not only reconnect with friends and classmates but to also see firsthand how your alma mater has grown into the exceptional school it is today. Many alumni commemorate this special weekend by making a gift in honor of their class or in recognition of a faculty member who made a lasting impact.
