Biography

Gwen Nzimiro began working at Columbus Academy in 2012 and moved into the role of middle school librarian at the start of the 2023-24 school year, this after having served as our upper school librarian since 2018. She also leads our faculty and staff SEED group (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity). Prior to joining Academy, Gwen was the lead librarian at Worthington Libraries, worked for a combined four years as a digital imaging specialist, instruction assistant, and information commons reference assistant at Indiana University, where she earned her M.L.S. and received the Evelyn Ray Sickels Award for high potential and leadership in youth librarianship. She spent 13 years as a graphic designer after earning a B.A. in the field from Northern Kentucky University, and also holds a B.A. in English from NKU. As an undergraduate, Gwen was awarded the Lindsey Leadership Award for significant contributions to extracurricular activities, Thad Lindsey Award for intellectual curiosity, wit and independence in classes and meetings, as well as the William Byron Award for high achievement in literature, writing and knowledge. Gwen and her husband, Richard, have two children: a son, Quentin ’29, and a daughter, Naomi ’32.

Columbus Academy fosters some really creative collaboration. I love getting pictures of my children in Lower School, and seeing students from Upper School in them. We all teach and learn from each other, and I love that about our community.”

Little-known fact
I once thought I wanted to be an archaeologist, and worked for a short time in Mammoth Cave. It was amazing to get to experience the park and caves in a way that most tourists don't get to see.”

Favorite place to eat
“My kitchen! My hubby and I love to play around with recipes and different flavor combinations to create our own unique menus.”
