Alumni Weekend 2023 Photos & Videos
Alumni Weekend 2023 proved to be another great turnout as 176 alumni and 238 total people visited campus over the course of a two-day celebration on September 22-23! While each year all alumni are invited to participate in alumni activities, there was a special emphasis on the Class of 1973's 50th reunion milestone and classes ending in 3's and 8's.
On Friday, the Class of 1973 kicked off the festivities with a special tour of campus followed by welcome reception where they reminisced about their time at Academy, all while enjoying drinks and snacks together. They were also honorary football captains for the varsity football game against Whitehall-Yearling High School, in which they were tasked with conducting the coin toss before the game.
Meanwhile, back at the Middle School Library, our Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony recognized Bob Kirk ’67 and Andrew Dunn ’02 in a special gathering of nearly 90 people. Immediately afterwards, Bob and Andrew were recognized in front of the entire Columbus Academy community during halftime of the football game at Hondros Field. Later that evening, over 100 alumni and guests attended the Viking Football Watch Party underneath a tent in the Academy Quad and inside the Trustees’ Room. Tailgate-style food and drinks were provided for everyone to enjoy while reminiscing with classmates and faculty, while cheering on the Vikings!
On Saturday morning, the Golden Viking Breakfast commenced in Academy Hall for graduates who were celebrating 50 or more years since commencement, as Head of School Melissa Soderberg joined the group of nearly 20 alumni to present about the State of Academy. Then the return of Brunch & Coffee with the CA Legends saw almost 100 alumni and guests stop by to mingle with longtime current and former teachers. The on-campus festivities concluded with the MOSAIC & Black Alumni Luncheon on the Senior Quad for fellowship. Hosted by Director of Diversity & Community Life Dr. Pascal Losambe, there was an interactive networking game for all of the Black alumni, parents and students to reminisce with old friends and forge new connections.
Throughout Saturday afternoon and into the evening, the Classes of 1973, 1978, 1983, 1993, 1998, 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2018 met at unique locations for class-only gatherings off-campus. Some of our alumni shared that they hadn't seen classmates since commencement day on campus, which made their reunions all the more exciting.
