Alissa Sommer is the new first grade associate at Columbus Academy and will be working with lead teacher Lisa Spolter and also with our after-school program C.A.S.E. She comes to Academy after teaching first grade for 10 years at Nannie Berry Elementary in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Alissa grew up outside of Dayton and attended the University of Michigan on a soccer scholarship where she earned a B.A. in education. She then taught second grade at a private school, Grace Christian Academy in Taipei, Taiwan, and then taught first grade at Trotwood Preparatory and Fitness Academy near Dayton, before earning her M.Ed. with reading endorsement from the University of Findlay. Outside of work, Alissa loves children’s books and spending time with family. Her husband, Tom, is a chef and they have two children, Isaac (9) and Sadie (8 months).
