The Columbus Academy Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble started spring break by spending four days in Orlando. The trip was highlighted by a jazz performance on the CityWalk Lagoon Stage at Universal Studios and a Disney Imagination Campus Workshop for the entire band.

The Academy contingent included 68 students and six faculty/staff chaperones. For the first two days, they enjoyed all the sights and sounds of Universal Studios and its theme parks. The first evening in Orlando also included cheering for the yellow knight at a Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament followed by the Jazz Ensemble concert the next morning.

The third day began with a three-hour instrumental workshop, where students immersed themselves into the world of the professional musician culminating with a special recording of our band performing music along with a portion of a Disney animated feature film (to be revealed at the spring band concert on April 30). For the remainder of that day, they experienced the enchantment of Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

To conclude the trip, our Vikings enjoyed a day of fun at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Before departing for home that evening, they watched Fantasmic, a spectacular fireworks and water show featuring beloved Disney characters and songs, laser lights and amazing hydrotechnic effects.
