School News

Head of School Melissa Soderberg announced to our community this morning the addition of a nature-based playground for our 3YO, PreK and Kindergarten students as well as plans for a complete theater renovation and improvements to our athletic spaces, including new locker rooms and an indoor fieldhouse!
On August 20, Columbus Academy opened its 108th school year with 1,120 students from 54 different zip codes in and around Central Ohio. For the first time in school history, Academy offered a classroom for 3-year-olds called the Explorers program. "We spend so much time and effort planning events and creating spaces, so we can't wait to see the results," said Head of School Melissa Soderberg in a back-to-school news article. "I especially look forward to hearing all about the internships and amazing experiences our older students had this summer."
Last week, our students in Middle and Upper School  participated in "The Big Table," a day of community discussion across the city presented by The Columbus Foundation. During lunch, the middle-schoolers met with their advisory groups while upper-schoolers gathered in small groups to discuss ways in which Academy and the Central Ohio region can be strengthened by working together to understand one another and the needs of the surrounding community.
Sports News

After an exciting summer during which they both competed in the 2018 AAU Junior Olympic Games among other elite events, Columbus Academy junior Kiersten Thomassey and sophomore Regan Cornelius have both been named among the top 50 players in the country for their class years by MAX Field Hockey!

Our varsity fall sports teams are off to impressive starts! Football beat Linden McKinley 51-6 in its home-opener this past Friday night. Field hockey hasn't allowed a goal in five wins to start the season. Girls tennis has won all five of its matchups so far. Volleyball has swept five straight matches and is 7-1 overall. Girls soccer is 3-1, boys soccer is 3-2, both cross country teams look really strong after a pair of races and our golfers appear ready and able to defend their state title.
