Biography

Sarah Hansen joined the Columbus Academy faculty in 2010 and has been a first grade lead teacher since 2017 and will be the team leader for the 2020-21 school year. She also serves as service coordinator for Lower School. Sarah originally began teaching on campus as a long-term substitute in 2009 before moving into a full-time role in second grade and as a PreK associate the following year. She also has been a kindergarten associate and lead teacher for PreK on campus. Prior to arriving at Academy, Sarah was a LaSallian Volunteer teaching in East Africa, and at Holy Family Catholic Worker House in Missouri. She also was a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines International, was in social work at a long-term care facility, and with youth services, education and custody intake for Douglas County Department of Youth and Family Services in Wisconsin. She holds a B.A. in social work from the College of Saint Benedict and has completed some courses working toward a M.Ed. from St. Joseph’s College in Maine. Sarah has two children, a daughter, Marin Henry ’21, and son, Griffin (Finn) Henry ’23, and her partner, Barton Hacker ’89, has a son, Harold Hacker who is in the Class of 2023 at Thomas Worthington High School.

“I love the campus of CA – exploring the creeks, fields, woods, and marshes is an adventure at any time of the year. My favorite building is the Crane Outdoor Learning Center – I'd love to make it my classroom! The best thing about CA is the students. They bring joy, light and laughter! It is IMPOSSIBLE to be in the Lower School and not smile among the curious and inquisitive kiddos.”

Little-known fact
“I went to middle and high school at (The Convent of) The Visitation School, an all-girls ISACS school in Saint Paul, Minnesota. My favorite lake is Lake Superior.”
