Academy Alumni in the News
Addis Boyd '18 (pictured) and his "Sistas of Liberty" clothing line were featured in a recent article in the Columbia Spectator. The idea for the company and its signature designs was sparked by a class project at Academy. Boyd started Sistas of Liberty in hopes of creating a platform to inspire and empower women and minority groups. Honoring CA Veterans
In honor of the 495 Columbus Academy alumni who have served our country in one of the armed forces, as well as the seven current coaches, faculty/staff, facility and security team members (Neal O'Brien, Dan Olexio and Kim-Sean Mam, United States Army -- Dennis Gilman, Christian Schweers and Matt Mele, United States Air Force -- Jon Wagshul, United States Navy) who have also served in the military, the school bell atop Morris Hall will ring 502 times Monday morning on Veterans Day. Academy's Camerata will sing "America the Beautiful" to conclude the event, which will take place in our Senior Quad prior to the start of classes. From our very first graduate (Carey Evans, Class of 1914) to our first alumnae to serve -- Mary Beth Ray and Jamie Scheiman, both from our Class of 2006 -- to our most recent graduate Vince Allen, Class of 2018, who is a cadet in Purdue University-Detachment 220, Columbus Academy commends the spirit of service its many alumni, faculty, staff, coaches, parents and friends have chosen to uphold.

Turkey Bowl on November 28
This year's Turkey Bowl will take place on Thanksgiving morning (

Alumni Holiday Luncheon on December 20

will be honored as the 2019 Distinguished Alumnus, and
Sue Bauman will receive the Alumni Service Award at our 2019 Holiday Luncheon.

Athletic Hall of Fame Induction
The Alumni Association will recognize and honor
Phil Cannon '82, Lindsey Williams '01
and
Scott Smith '03
for their outstanding contributions to the athletic program at Columbus Academy.
Phil, Lindsey, and Scott will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, January 25, at 6:30 p.m. in the Dining Hall and, immediately following, will be recognized on the court at halftime of the basketball game against Bexley. All alumni are welcome to attend!

Last month, 15 of our alumni joined some of our upper-schoolers for a Career Fair inside the dining hall. The event, hosted by the Alumni Office and Internship Office, was designed to help our upper-schoolers gain insight into varying industries to perhaps spark an interest in a certain career field, ranging from business, law, non-profits, healthcare, technology and many more! Three upper-schoolers have earned prestigious honors for their musicianship! Academy junior Lucas Huang repeated as the statewide winner of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) composition competition on the senior level. Meanwhile, freshman Cory Wu will also represent Ohio at the MTNA East Central Division competition in December as the top performer in Junior Piano. And senior Simon Iobst is one of just 15 teenagers from across the country named as a finalist in the National Young Composers Challenge for an ensemble.

Sports News
An incredibly successful fall has already produced three state titles for our athletic programs (team championships for field hockey and boys golf as well as a singles title in girls tennis) with three teams (football, girls soccer and boys soccer) still competing in the postseason! Field hockey won its 12th crown by defeating Shaker Heights 1-0 last Saturday to complete back-to-back undefeated seasons while boys golf cruised to its third-straight title and 10th overall with a 29-stroke victory over its nearest Division II competitor last month followed by junior Sydni Ratliff becoming Academy's first state champion in girls singles by not dropping even a set in the state tournament.
In girls soccer, our Vikings won the program's first regional title Saturday by beating Bishop Rosecrans 2-0 and will face Cincinnati Country Day in tonight's state semifinals at 7:00 p.m. in Xenia. Our boys soccer squad, meanwhile, claimed its first regional crown since 1995 with Saturday's 2-0 defeat of West Holmes and takes on Tipp City Tippecanoe in a 7:00 p.m. match tomorrow at London High School. And our football team has qualified for the Division V playoffs for the third time in four years by capping a 7-3 regular season with a 41-0 shutout at Bexley. The fifth-seeded Vikes travel to fourth seed Amanda-Clearcreek for a 7:00 p.m. postseason-opener on Saturday.
