Alumni Weekend 2021

We have great news to share: this fall's Alumni Weekend celebration will be held in person at Columbus Academy on October 1-2! We are excited to welcome back those classes scheduled to celebrate a reunion in 2021 (the 1s and 6s), as well as those of you who have been patiently waiting since last fall (the 0s and 5s) and the 1995 state champion boys soccer team. We have much to celebrate and will look forward to doing so with these multiple cohorts of alumni.

We are working on an exciting schedule of events and activities to engage our community and celebrate all things Academy! Alumni Weekend is also more than just being on campus and for those who cannot make it back, we will continue virtual offerings. In the coming weeks, we will share more details about our programming plans for next academic year. We hope you are as happy as we are that we can host Alumni Weekend 2021 on campus, in person. We hope to see you back in Columbus this fall.
13th Annual Golf Outing

Our alumni community is invited to participate in the 13th Annual Columbus Academy Golf Outing being held on Monday, September 20, at Columbus Country Club. The golf outing is designed to benefit financial aid in memory of George N. Corey, former Board of Trustees president and father of Michael Corey '01.

The outing will start at 1:00 p.m., followed by a gathering at the clubhouse. Golfers will have the option to play a casual four-person scramble or a four-person two-best ball for those who would like a little more competition. The outing is limited to 100 players (25 teams).

Click here for registration and sponsorship opportunities. We'll see you on the greens!

Annual Fund Closes June 30

Throughout this exceptional year, our faculty, staff and students have remained resilient, and we are incredibly proud of all that they have accomplished. We are grateful for your support that has provided the school the resources to be nimble, allowing our teachers to focus on the important work they do with students every day. If you haven't participated in this year's Annual Fund, we hope you will join in with your gift before June 30th. We invite you to make your donation online and let us know if your gift is in honor or memory of a special classmate, teacher or coach. Thank you for your important support!
School News

Congratulations to all of the upper-schoolers recognized during Honors Assembly last Friday (view list of award recipients). In addition to this video of the award presentations, you can watch the Cum Laude Address by faculty member John Street, the U.S. Naval Academy appointment for senior Luke Nester, and the 2021 yearbook dedication.

Matt Thompson, who joined Columbus Academy as an assistant athletic director in 2016 and has been our varsity girls soccer coach for the past four seasons, will take on a new role as Upper School Dean of Students this summer. Despite leaving his position in our athletics department, Matt will continue to coach our girls soccer program, which he has guided to two league titles and back-to-back appearances in the state semifinals. "I am honored and humbled to be taking over as Academy's Upper School Dean," he said. "I look forward to building and fostering relationships with our students, faculty and families that are grounded in trust and mutual respect. CA is such an incredible school, and I will take great pride in the opportunity I have to shape our culture and ensure that all of our students feel connected, fulfilled and well prepared for whatever life has in store for them."

Last month, our Upper School Musical Theatre Program presented "Voices To The Sky: Academy Songs"
-- a collection of songs, old and new, of and about Academy. In addition to the above video of "Academy Fight Song Reimagined" you can stream or download the five-song collection. Congratulations to the cast consisting of Evelyn Aebi, Matthew Fang, Rosie Gruber, Sean Jackson, Maddie Kazatsky, Ryan Reagan, Javi Sais and Mia Salopek as well as to Janet Li, David Narayanan and Jay Whitney for their contributions as songwriters on this musical recording project under the direction of Stefan Farrenkopf.
Sports News

Recent graduate Regan Cornelius '21 has earned a $7,500 scholarship for being named the top female scholar-athlete for all of Central Ohio! According to a Columbus Dispatch interview, Regan's proudest sports moment was "competing in the state meet for cross country, then heading straight to state finals for field hockey and scoring the winning goal in my junior year."
As a junior, Zach White became the first All-American in the 10-year history of boys lacrosse at Columbus Academy. He was also named Ohio Player of the Year for Division II after breaking the state record for most points in a season. Zach tallied 90 goals and 65 assists in 19 games, and his 155 total points shattered the previous mark of 142 set in 2015 by Walsh Jesuit's Trevor Brown. And in just his third season as head coach, Derek Lichtfuss earned state co-coach of the year honors in addition to being named the region's coach of the year for the second time.
