Important Experience Magazine Update

We apologize for an omission in the most recent edition of the school's magazine. Specifically, on page seven there is a list of donors to the Class of 1994 Scholarship Fund and, unfortunately, several names of donors from the class were left off of this list. We would like to thank the following alumni for their generous support (*denotes scholarship committee members):

Mr. Joseph T. Rini III '94 *
Mr. Anand Satiani '94 *
Mr. Jacob R. Saxbe '94
Mr. Craig M. Seager '94
Mr. Christopher M. Sippel '94
Mr. Peter A. Walter '94 *
Mr. Zachary T. Waltz '94 *
Mr. Nathan M. Williamson '94
Dr. Brett L. Worly '94
Mr. Patrick K. Yin '94
Mr. Jacob H. York '94

We are so grateful for all of the Class of 1994 Scholarship donors. Because of their support they have made it possible to provide the priceless gift of an Academy education for a student who otherwise could only dream of this opportunity. Click here to read the corrected full story.

Our alumni community is invited to participate in the 13th Annual Columbus Academy Golf Outing being held on Monday, September 20, at Columbus Country Club. The golf outing is designed to benefit financial aid in memory of George N. Corey, former Board of Trustees president and father of Michael Corey '01.

The outing will start at 1:00 p.m., followed by a gathering at the clubhouse. Golfers will have the option to play a casual four-person scramble or a four-person two-best ball for those who would like a little more competition. The outing is limited to 100 players (25 teams).

School News

Commencement 2021 was unlike any other, which was a fitting conclusion to an unprecedented school year and a final example of just how resilient our graduating seniors and their families have been. Warm welcomes were provided by Head of School Melissa Soderberg and class president Luke Nester, followed by the Valedictory Address from Cary Cup recipient Vaughn Armour and the Commencement Address by Debbie Keeran, who retired this month as the longest-serving female staff member in Columbus Academy history.
Soham Joshi and Raaghav Malik, who are both rising seniors at Columbus Academy, continue to garner awards and collect prizes for their invention of a multipurpose robotic glove designed to teach sign language through guided manual motion (watch pitch video). At the 2021 Invention Convention U.S. Nationals last month, this duo received the Best of Show -- Most Innovative honor from Raytheon Technologies in addition to the Specialty Award in Electronics from Arrow and Patent Award from WilmerHale.
The Parents Association of Columbus Academy (PACA) is offering the opportunity for ad sponsorship in its annual arts and sports programs. Ads are available for purchase in color or black-and-white (in full-, half- and quarter-page sizes) with a one-time price that gets your business or organization in all four publications for the upcoming school year. Click here to view the ad rate sheet. Each program is printed for the student-athletes, performing arts students and their families, and are made available digitally to the entire Academy community. If you or a business you know of may be interested in placing an ad in this year's programs, email communications coordinator Jeremy Morgan ([email protected]) to secure a spot.
Sports News

Rising seniors Lauren Klinefelter and Gyvnn Mendenhall are the 2021 Wayne Roller Scholar Athletes for the Mid-State League's Ohio Division! Lauren has been a standout all-state performer in our swimming program while Gyvnn has earned All-Ohio honors in football and been a state-qualifier in wrestling as well as a stellar defender for our boys lacrosse team. The award is named after the former MSL commissioner and hall-of-famer who passed away unexpectedly in 2017.
A trio of Columbus Academy student-athletes were named Player of the Year in their respective sports at the 2021 ThisWeekSports HS Awards Show (watch replay of the event at youtu.be/pAgdtU2tLcg): Stephen Ma for boys golf, Sydni Ratliff for girls tennis, and Regan Cornelius for field hockey! Regan also was selected to attend USA Field Hockey's 2022 U-21 National Team Selection Camp along with fellow alumna Kiersten Thomassey '20.
