CA TO HOST ART OF WORLD-RENOWNED CERAMICIST

Columbus Academy will host an art exhibit featuring the works of Toshiko Takaezu from January 20 to March 10 in the school's Morris Hall art gallery. The exhibit will be open to the public on Saturdays from noon to 4:00 p.m., and a preview reception for the Academy community will be held this Thursday, January 18, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the gallery. A Personal Process: The Art and Life of Toshiko Takaezu will offer a close look at diverse styles and divergent forms and techniques Takaezu discovered through a lifetime of artistic exploration. Known primarily for her rounded ceramic forms, this exhibition will feature Takaezu's works in clay, fiber, painting and bronze.
AN EVENING OF CINEMA & COURAGEOUS CONVERSATION

Please join the Parents' Association of Columbus Academy and the school's MOSAIC (Mobility, Opportunity, Social Equality, Action & Impact for our Children) group for the screening of 13TH, an Oscar nominated documentary about the historical role of the 13th Amendment and the mass incarceration of African Americans. A facilitated discussion will follow led by Dr. Mark Lomax of The Columbus Foundation. This free event will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, in the Columbus Academy Dining Hall.

Refreshments will be provided as well as childcare for potty-trained children up to eighth grade. Students in grades 9-12 are encouraged to attend the screening and discussion with their parents/guardians. Students as young as seventh grade may want to attend. This is fine if they are accompanied by a parent/guardian, but we are sensitive to age recommendations for the film, such as from Common Sense Media. In order to make proper arrangements, we ask that you RSVP by January 20 to Kelly Vaziri at kdvaziri@aol.com, and please note in your response if you need childcare, for how many and the ages.
MLK ACTIVITIES & ASSEMBLY FOCUS ON KINDNESS

Students at Columbus Academy honored the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. last Friday morning by working with friends from other grades and divisions to share kindness promises, which were then written on paper clouds and added to "Weaving Walls" that are now displayed in hallways around campus. The entire school then gathered in Mackenzie Gymnasium for an assembly that included a performance by Leap of Faith dance studio, reading of kindness promises by Senior-Kindergarten Buddies and the singing of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" by our Camerata.
CELEBRATE THE ARTS WITH US ON FEBRUARY 10

This year's theme of "Weaving a Community" reminds us how the arts weave creativity, critical thinking, artistic excellence and self-discovery in a whole child. You can purchase sponsorships and tickets as well as advertise to the Academy community in the 2017-18 Arts Program. Please contact Maria Glimcher at impulsemg@aol.com with any questions.

In addition to this photo of our seventh grade team, which is coached by upper school faculty member John Compton, you can view images of Jeff Warstler's varsity players at the link below.
