PREK & KINDERGARTEN SHOWCASE ON OCTOBER 11

Please help Columbus Academy spread the word about its PreK & Kindergarten Showcase that will begin at 9:30 a.m. on October 11 in the lower school library. This event offers a chance to see classrooms in action, tour newly renovated facilities, explore curriculum materials and learn about CA's early childhood program from teachers and administrators. If you know anyone with children between the ages of 3-5 who should be considering Academy as an educational option, encourage them to register!
SECOND ANNUAL VIKING RAMPAGE RUN

If you missed our inaugural Viking Rampage Run last fall, you do not want to miss this year's bigger and better version that will be held on October 14. There will be three courses (designed by alumnus and parent Ryan Yeoman '90) to accommodate all ages and ability levels as well as a chance to meet alumna Meredith Keeran Kessler '96, one of the world's top Ironman triathletes. Mark this on your calendars to come have fun and get muddy with us!

THE BIG GIVE BEGINS OCTOBER 10

The Columbus Foundation's The Big Give is back on October 10, beginning at 10:00 a.m. When you make your Annual Fund gift to Columbus Academy as part of this 26-hour online event, you will help the school earn bonus pool funds provided by the foundation and its partners. Your amplified gift makes a "BIG" difference, providing extra support for faculty development and innovation as our school seeks to continuously improve upon the Academy experience for each and every student. We hope all members of our Columbus Academy community will join in The Big Give to make a difference for whatever cause they care about, not only because it is good for Central Ohio, but because having empathy and compassion for others is integral to who we are as an Academy community.
HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH CELEBRATION

HOLA! invites you to attend Columbus Academy's Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration. Save the date and join us on October 15 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Come tour a Latin American art exhibit in Morris Hall followed by Dr. Willam Calvo-QuirĂ³s, who will speak about: "La Cultura Cura: Latina(os) as Borderlanders." This lecture will explore how Latina/os in the United States have been able to constantly "cross" their many cultural borders, demands and responsibilities. Over time, they have developed a unique identity as "borderlanders." Despite their many obstacles and difficulties, Latina/os as constant borderlanders have envisioned and worked toward the creation of a new world, a new America, one that embraces diversity, inclusion and mutual care. The event will end with an opportunity to enjoy authentic Latin food in the Lazarus Courtyard just outside the art gallery.
JOHN EXLINE '64 HONORED AT CHARLIE DAVID DINNER

For his 50 years of service to Columbus Academy, John Exline '64 was the guest of honor at the recent 35th annual Charlie David Dinner! In addition to being presented with a new varsity jacket during the event, John was surprised at halftime of the football game with a special flag that will fly at Hondros Field and in front of Academy Hall for the remainder of this school year. A lot more to come from all of that day's festivities.

ARTS SCENE

Our orchestra program, which begins in second grade under the direction of Cynthia Bush and Soojin Lee and consists of 174 Academy students (including 85 in Lower School), has a record number of musicians chosen to perform in ensembles throughout Central Ohio this year! In addition, senior Andy Zhang recently earned third place in piano ensemble at the 2017 New York Debut Young Musicians Competition, which included over 100 submissions from countries around the world! SERVICE LEARNING

Columbus Academy junior Marcus Grewal (middle photo), who is serving as Gubernator for the Ohio Junior Classical League (OJCL) this year, helped to organize Make a Difference Day during Saturday's Pumpkinpalooza at Emswiler Farms in Pataskala. He and Krista Bower, Nationwide Children's Hospital's volunteer organizer, welcomed OJCL volunteers including Academy senior & OJCL Editor Taylor McGowan (top) and Latin teachers Christy Bening & Elise Gursahaney, who is pictured at the bottom with Wellington student & OJCL 2nd VP Aquila Simmons. Throughout the afternoon, they staffed the various games and offerings for this community event benefiting the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Nationwide Children's!
SPORTS REPORT

Our girls tennis program celebrated its seniors during a pair of matches last week. In addition to those photos, we've included action shots from the Mid-State League championship tournament, where they won individual titles on all three singles courts (Sydni Ratliff, Georgia Tuckerman & Himaja Reddy) plus both doubles competitions (Lexis Hughes-Maddie Tuckerman & Alexandria Graham-Lauren Motta).
