"THE THEORY OF RELATIVITY" COMES TO CA'S STAGE

The Columbus Academy Upper School Theatre Program will present "The Theory of Relativity" in Schoedinger Theatre on April 19-21. "This is a different kind of show," explained director Stefan Farrenkopf, who is also an English teacher at the school. "It was commissioned by a university in Canada in the hopes of giving their acting students an opportunity to play roles that were appropriate for their own age. It's a really cool show, and we've fallen in love with it." Opening performance will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 19. The weekend shows will both begin at 8:00 p.m.

INFORMATION LITERACY IN A POST-TRUTH WORLD

There are many benefits of PACA. This past week another excellent example was provided during the regular PACA SEED (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) meeting. Middle school librarian Stacy Nockowitz presented information on the purpose, identification and skills that can be employed to recognize "Fake News." As our children grow and learn, the skills of being aware of and identifying fake news are increasingly important, and Columbus Academy is again on the leading edge in preparing our students to meet the challenges fake news poses.
COMMUNITY LIFE HOSTING PARENT FOCUS GROUP

The Office of Diversity and Community Life and PACA Diversity and Community Life Committee will be hosting another focus group for parents on Sunday, April 29, from noon to 2:00 p.m. on the fireplace side of the Dining Hall. The purpose of these gatherings is to help generate dialogue among parents/guardians of students who share a core identity and provide the school a chance to learn about your perspectives. On the 29th, we invite parents/guardians of students of Indian, Pakistani or other South Asian heritage to join us. Lunch and childcare will be provided. Kindly RSVP below. For questions or more information, please contact Director of Diversity and Community Life Beckett Broh.

ARTS & MUSIC SCENE

Rock posters by our sixth-graders were once again featured at The Fillmore -- a historic music venue in San Francisco -- over Spring Break! According to art teacher Pedro Mena, who coordinated the project, Academy students collaborated on benefit concert posters inspired by the impact art and music can make on our world. The class created their designs in Photoshop and screen printed their posters with guest artists Alison and Nick from Alison Rose. Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite, Grammy Award recipients for best blues album, performed at The Fillmore while our students' work was on display!

SERVICE LEARNING

Please send in your BoxTops! We are heading into our final collection month of the school year. Send in your BoxTops now through May 18. Our school is a BoxTop school. Families, faculty and staff collect BoxTops from various household products such as Cheerios, Kleenex, Ziploc bags, etc. We bring the BoxTops back to school in bags of 50 or attached to a collection sheet in groups of 25 or 50. Next we mail them in to receive 10 cents for every BoxTop we mail back as part of the program. The money from BoxTops supports the purchase of the perishable food, toiletries and cleaning supplies for families sponsored by our fall Kids-4-Kids service learning project. In the past, we have also used funds from this program to purchase fleece for Project Linus blankets in the winter. Thank you so much for supporting this worthwhile program. Let's make this the biggest collection year yet!
