ADMISSIONS OFFICE UNVEILS NEW VIEWBOOK

"An admissions viewbook is really the flagship of your brand," says Director of Admissions and Financial Aid John Wuorinen '80. "With beautiful photography of our light-filled rooms, innovative learning spaces and stunning outdoor areas, this new publication captures what a special school this is. And it reframes Columbus Academy in a way that better aligns with our Strategic Vision." Print copies are available in the Admissions Office to pass along to anyone who might be interested in becoming a part of the Academy experience.
CA HOSTING ART OF WORLD-RENOWNED CERAMICIST

Columbus Academy is hosting an art exhibit featuring the works of Toshiko Takaezu until Spring Break in the school's Morris Hall art gallery. The exhibit is open on school days to the Academy community and to the public on Saturdays from noon to 4:00 p.m. A Personal Process: The Art and Life of Toshiko Takaezu offers a close look at diverse styles and divergent forms and techniques Takaezu discovered through a lifetime of artistic exploration. Known primarily for her rounded ceramic forms, this exhibition features Takaezu's works in clay, fiber, painting and bronze.
THREE CA FINALISTS IN CSO CONCERTO COMPETITION

Columbus Academy eighth-grader Anna Linder, junior Ginnia Ma and senior Andy Zhang were among just a handful of finalists in the Columbus Symphony Orchestra's Concerto Competition this past weekend at The Ohio State University! A few weeks ago, Anna also received Honorable Mention at the New Albany Concerto Competition for musicians up to age 24 in all instruments and vocals, a wonderful accomplishment for a middle-schooler!

2018 CURRIER LECTURE TO FOCUS ON IMMIGRATION

Columbus Academy's Currier Lecture Series will feature the Community Refugee and Immigration Services (CRIS) agency and its Executive Director Angela Plummer and Program Manager Tara Dhungana next month. The event will include assemblies for our Middle and Upper Schools as well as a lunch forum with students on March 5 and a free public presentation in our dining hall at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6. The lecture series was founded in memory of Phil Currier, former head of Academy's Upper School, whose zest for life overshadowed his untimely death in 1995. CLOTHING EXCHANGE CLOSET IS OPEN AGAIN

After a brief remodeling, Academy's Clothing Exchange Closet is again open for business! Located down the hall from the nurses' office in the lower level of the Middle School, it is open before, during and after school hours. The closet has two purposes: the short-term, emergency provision of clothing and as a long-term exchange of CA clothing for students and their families. It is open to EVERYONE! Did your child have a growth spurt? Pants too short? Drop off the old ones and swap them for a gently used pair. Need some maroon and gray clothing for spirit day? Come see what we have. Please donate any CA apparel: dress code tops and bottoms, belts, socks or leggings, sweaters and spirit wear. All sizes (youth and adult) are welcome. A drop-off bin for donations is conveniently located inside the door. There is a dedicated group of volunteers who will sort the clothing, store the items that cannot fit in the space, and alert the community to any urgent needs.
ARTS SCENE

Columbus Academy's Middle School staged delightful performances of Singin' in the Rain earlier this month. Click on the following links to watch the opening number of "Fit as a Fiddle" from the final dress rehearsal and many more highlights from the closing show, including the Saturday night curtain call.

SERVICE LEARNING

Columbus Academy third-graders initially visited Kensington Place, a retirement community just north of Bexley, in November as part of CARE-ing Community Day. The students and residents had such a great time that our teachers decided to schedule another trip. So earlier this month, students in two of our third grade classrooms (3A & 3B) spent the morning making Valentine's cards for the residents to hang on their doors and decorate their rooms. "Lots of lively conversation and fun for all involved," said teacher Elizabeth Sinclair. "We plan to visit each month for the remainder of the school year." The other two classrooms (3C & 3D) will make the trip in March.
