Based on resounding interest, Columbus Academy will begin a preschool program for 3-year-olds in the upcoming 2018-19 school year. Our screening for this new offering will be an observation/play session from 9:30-10:30 a.m. either this Saturday, February 3, or on Saturday, February 10. To schedule one of these dates, please contact Debbie Keeran at [email protected].
The deadline for applying for first-round decisions at all grade levels is February 16.
MIDDLE-SCHOOLERS SINGIN' IN THE RAIN THIS WEEKEND

Columbus Academy's Middle School will stage "Singin' In the Rain Jr." in the Schoedinger Theatre this Friday and Saturday, February 2-3. We expect large crowds for both 7:30 p.m. performances so please arrive early to secure your seats. Watch the show's delightful teaser from this month's PACA meeting featuring seventh-grader Ethan Kim and eighth-graders Ryan Reagan and Brooke Tumeo, three of the leads in our talented cast!
BLACK HISTORY MONTH KICKS OFF IN LOWER SCHOOL

Black History Month officially begins today but our celebration started earlier this week at lower school assembly when LS Head Mark Hansen told students about former Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, sixth-graders demonstrated African drumming, lower-schoolers learned about other prominent African-Americans based on clues and the entire audience sang "Lift Every Voice and Sing" to conclude the event. Special assemblies for the middle- and upper-schoolers will be held on February 9 and 26, respectively.

Also, all are invited to celebrate Black History Month at an event titled "Our Hidden Figures/Revealed" sponsored by MOSAIC that will take place from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, in the Dining Hall. There will be hands-on activities for the kids, art, music, food and fellowship, so please join us as we spotlight the experiences of our "Hidden Figures" and their valuable contributions to their respective STEAM fields!
HELP US CELEBRATE THE ARTS ON FEBRUARY 10

All members of the Academy community who are at least 21 years old are invited to Celebrate the Arts on Saturday, February 10. "Weaving a Community" is this year's theme, and we hope that you will be a part of this creative celebration hosted by the Parents' Association of Columbus Academy. Food, beverages and entertainment are all a part of the $35 tickets, which you can purchase at the door or online by clicking on the link below. Please also consider sponsorship packages that begin at $125 and include preferred seating. All proceeds benefit our fantastic arts programs!
STUDENT JOURNALISTS EARN GOLD CIRCLE AWARD

The Academy Life, our student journalism class and online newspaper, won a 2017 Gold Circle Award in the category of digital news from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association! According to advisor Pat Hogan, approximately 20 percent of last year's submissions from 1,122 schools achieved a Gold standing, which recognizes superior work by student journalists usually as individuals but sometimes as an entire staff working with either print or online media. View the most recent work by our Academy Life staff at https://ca-life.org.
15TH ANNUAL TRUE BEAUTY FASHION SHOW

Please join us for the 15th Annual True Beauty Fashion Show benefitting the Center for Balanced Living, the only nonprofit eating disorder treatment facility in Ohio. The center is recognized on a national level for its success in rehabilitation. This event is a student-model fashion show and silent auction organized by Columbus Academy students in order to spread the message that true beauty shines through everybody. The models' clothing as well as the silent auction items will feature local Columbus boutiques and brands. Anyone is welcome to attend the 8:00 p.m. show on Friday, February 23, at Vue Columbus. You can also follow the event on Instagram and Facebook.

ARTS SCENE

Our talented musicians and singers earned 45 Superior and 13 Excellent ratings at this past Saturday's Solo & Ensemble competition hosted by the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) at Reynoldsburg High School's Summit Campus. Receiving a high rating counts toward lettering in the arts at Columbus Academy, becomes part of the student's high school resume and can play a role in the college selection process.

SERVICE LEARNING

Our student-run Service Board organized a Blood Drive earlier this month that generated enough units to potentially save 71 lives! This was just one example of all the service learning activities our students experience throughout the school year, as mentioned by Head of School Melissa Soderberg in an article titled "How Private Schools Are K-12 Innovators" from the current issue of Columbus Business First.
