Mrs. Robeano
Small class sizes permit plenty of individual attention.
Q. At what grade levels do most students enter your school?
A. Our key entry points are at the Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 5th and 9th grades.
Q. When is the best time to apply?
A. Families should begin the admissions process in the fall of the year prior to entry. Screening begins in December and spaces are awarded beginning on March 1. We continue to accept applications after March 1, but we cannot guarantee that all applicants will be screened for the upcoming school year if the applicant pool exceeds our capacity to screen candidates or if a grade level is full.
Q. How are applicants evaluated?
A. Admissions Committees in each of the three divisions of the school (Lower, Middle and Upper) review each candidate's test results, transcripts (2-12) and teacher recommendations to determine which candidates are qualified for admission.
Q. Can test results be shared with other schools?
A. We share test results for grades 5-10 with other schools if parents request us to do so.
Q. Does my child need to retest the next year if he/she has been wait-listed?
A. To be in a competitive position, candidates must retest and update their files even though they were accepted for wait-list status the previous year.
Q. If I apply for financial aid, will this affect my child's chances for admission?
A. The school's Admissions Committees do not know who has applied for financial aid, and financial aid decisions are only made after a student has enrolled.
Q. What is your teacher/student ratio?
A. In the Lower School, the student/teacher ratio is 8:1. In the Middle and Upper Schools, the average class size is 16.
Q. How many applications do you have for each opening?
A. Although it varies from one grade level to another, we generally have three applicants for each opening.
Q. How involved are students in the extracurricular life of your school?
A. Almost every student is involved in the extracurricular life of the school. More activities are added at each grade level with the most activities being offered in the Upper School. Involvement centers on student leadership, the performing arts, student publications, athletics and community service.
Q. Are parents involved in the life of the school?
A. Academy parents become involved in the life of the school as members of our Parents Association and as room parents, library volunteers and athletic boosters. We pride ourselves on the frequency of our communication with parents and could not offer the quality program that we do without their help and support.
