A Message from the Headmaster
John Mackenzie

I am pleased to welcome you to The Columbus Academy – initially through the school's Web site and hopefully later in person. We hope this Web site will introduce you to this wonderful place of learning where our students challenge us to put the school's motto, "In Quest of the Best," into practice every day.

We believe that Columbus Academy is a "Community of Learners," with appropriate emphasis on the two major words in that phrase. We consider this community to encompass students, teachers, parents, alumni and even the Greater Columbus environs in which we live. We have much to learn from one another,

Since its founding in 1911 as an all-boys school (we are now coed), Columbus Academy has gone through many changes. You can read about those on the history page. Yet throughout all the changes, the Academy has never wavered in its commitment to the values of honesty, integrity and industry. The school has always encouraged its students to take risks and stretch themselves in reasonable and safe ways.

With our centennial year on the horizon, Columbus Academy is committed to reshaping the best of its past in the context of a new century. The use of technology is one example of how the school approaches traditional practices in less traditional ways. It is our hope that this Web site will be used simultaneously to extend our school community and to bring it closer together, and that it will provide a learning tool for all who use it.

Mission

The Columbus Academy – an independent, coeducational college preparatory school – enriches its academic tradition of excellence by valuing a broad diversity of students as it seeks to develop the complete person: mind, body and character. The school rewards rigorous effort and accomplishment, fosters compassion, respect and moral courage, and insists on integrity, fair play and community service. The Academy strives to develop and sustain a community of thoughtful, responsible, capable and confident citizens eager to engage in a pluralistic and ever-changing world.
